Student Speaker for Commencement Ceremonies

Commencement Student

The College of Letters and Science invites its graduating seniors to apply to be a student speaker for commencement ceremonies. Students will be selected to represent each ceremony.

If you are selected to be the student speaker, you will be seated on stage during the ceremony, will have the opportunity to have pictures taken by a professional photographer, and are eligible to receive additional commencement tickets (based on availability) with VIP reserved seating. Your name will be printed in the program and you will be given an introduction by one of the Letters & Science Deans. Your speech must be 3-5 minutes in length.

To qualify students must:

  1. Be enrolled in the College of Letters & Science
  2. Have a minimum of 150 units completed by the beginning of Fall quarter 2008
  3. Be in good academic standing
  4. Have registered to participate in Commencement

Application Deadline: 4:00 pm, Friday, October 17, 2008 (Please fill out both sides.)
Application Review & Scheduling of Initial Interviews: Week of October 20
Initial Interviews with the Commencement Coordinator: Week of October 27
Finalists Notified: By Friday, October 31
Final Interview & Speech Audition: Thursday, November 13, 2008

The Final Interview & Speech Audition is in front of a panel, consisting of the Commencement Coordinator, a Communication professor, 1-2 counselors, and 1-2 peer student advisors.
