John Lescroart is a New York Times bestselling author of seventeen novels, including most recently The Suspect, due out in January 2007. He has written thirteen books in the San Francisco based Dismas Hardy/Abe Glitsky series, and a couple of Sherlock Holmes pastiches: Son of Holmes and its sequel, Rasputin's Revenge. His books have been translated into fifteen languages in more than seventy-five countries, and his short stories have been included in several anthologies. The last several of Lescroart's books have been main selections in one or more of the Literary Guild, Mystery Guild, and Book of the Month Club.
In 2000, Lescroart founded CrowArt Records to facilitate releasing his music and that of his friends. Currently he is finishing work on a CD entitled "Whiskey and Roses," featuring many of his original Country & Western songs.
Outside of the book and music world, Lescroart loves to cook. His original recipes have appeared in Gourmet Magazine and in the cookbook A Taste of Murder.
On Wednesday, January 31 2007, Lescroart will visit UC Davis and discuss his career in writing, offering his perspective on writing and being part of today's publishing world.
Lescroart, looking ahead to his visit, said, "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to talk about the writing process, the publishing industry, and specifically a bit about my new book, The Suspect. It's the first time I've written a female protagonist, and that experience was interesting and fun. Also, I love answering any and all questions about the experiences of publishing, writing, or any other, even tangentially-related topics."

Angel Martinez, L&S '77 and current CEO of Deckers Outdoor Corporation, the company that oversees the shoe brands Ugg, Simple, and Teva. Martinez will spoke at UC Davis on Monday, October 16 2006.
Angel Martinez made his mark at Reebok in the 1980's when he saw the business opportunity in designing athletic footwear for women and led the team that designed and marketed the legendary Freestyle aerobic shoe. This shoe positioned Reebok at the forefront of the women's fitness movement. In his tenure at Reebok, Martinez established Reebok's presence in Hollywood, aggressively placing its products in television, music and film production. He also identified and developed new and innovative fitness programs and products such as Step Reebok and Reebok University, which rejuvenated the fitness industry. He then went on to head the Rockport Company and Keen Footwear. In 2005, Martinez joined Deckers as President and CEO.
On Monday, October 16 2006, Martinez visited UC Davis, discussed his long career in the shoe industry and offered his perspective on what it takes to be a successful leader.
