Created by Robert Arneson, Professor of Department of Art, this is the first of the Egghead series installed on the UC Davis campus.
Declaring a major is a big step towards focusing your education and your post-college career.
A major is a personal statement about yourself. It reflects your area of intellectual interest, though not necessarily the choice of your career. You can declare a major at any time after your first quarter. Some students decide upon a major in their first year. Most students choose a major before the end of the sophomore year. You are expected to focus your interests and declare you're a major by the time you have completed 90 units. Before declaring your major, consult with a faculty adviser in that department or program. They can assist you in developing a program of study and file the petition to declare the major.
The College of Letters and Science allows you to create your own major, focusing on an area or areas that you want to explore. For more information, please read the Individual Major handbook
Freshman seminars give freshman an opportunity to learn about a variety of different topics, and most of these seminars are taught by College of Letters and Science faculty.
