Undergraduate Education and Advising

Academic advisors in the College of Letters and Science cultivate inclusive, holistic and equitable advising that empowers students to pursue their personal, academic and professional goals through meaningful educational experiences. We facilitate learning by providing a curricular framework and individualized guidance to promote student achievement and development. We believe each student’s journey toward success is unique.

Academic advisors in the college uphold the University’s shared values outlined in the Principles of Community and the Undergraduate Educational Objectives. Our learning-centered integrative advising approach engages students as active and responsible partners to realize their educational, career and life goals.

What We Provide

College Dean’s Office Advising: The College of Letters and Science Undergraduate Education and Advising office (UEA) offers both one-on-one and group advising. UEA academic advisors are one of the best all-around resources and can help students identify goals, assist in planning an academic path, support when students experience difficulty, and ensure students meet all requirements needed to receive a degree.

Major and Minor Advising: Each major and minor within the College of Letters and Science has staff and faculty advisors who can help you identify and plan out your goals, provide recommendations to help you explore your specific areas of interest, and ensure you meet your specific major or minor requirements. They are also a great resource for research, internship and career opportunities.

Peer Advising: In addition to our professional staff, the College of Letters and Science maintains a team of highly trained peer advisors. Peers are current UC Davis students from a wide variety of majors who can offer advice on topics such as course scheduling, major and minor selection, getting involved on campus, and are a great resource for student life. Peer advising is available in the UEA office, many major departments, and in residence halls across campus.
