Bio

As a former Davis School Board member with years of service in the Davis community and former assistant dean of women and then educational placement advisor at UC Davis, Joan Sallee brings her knowledge of both K-12 and higher education to the College of Letters & Science Dean’s Advisory Council. From 1980 to 2003, she worked for the California Postsecondary Education Commission as a senior research associate whose duties encompassed academic program review and research studies on such diverse topics as general education, remedial education and teacher education. She also served on the statewide advisory committees for the California Writing Project, the California Reading and Literature Project and the California Science Project, and as president of the California Association for Institutional Research.

After retiring, Mrs. Sallee took on three successive part-time assignments as a member of the Governor’s Education Team for the California Performance Review; External Affairs for the Department of Pesticide Regulation within the California Environmental Protection Agency; and education consultant for First 5 California.

Mrs. Sallee holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Trinity College and a Master of Arts in English from Mills College. She has a C. Phil. degree from UC Berkeley in higher education, administration and policy analysis and attended the UC Management Institute. Mrs. Sallee joined the Dean’s Advisory Council in 2010.
