Recruitment and Retention Research Support Funds Policy

Research support funds are awarded in the recruitment and retention of faculty to promote their research productivity. These funds are intended to be used within a specified amount of time ‐‐ normally three years from the date of hire or four years from the effective date of retention. Research support funds are intended to cover expenses associated with research, such as travel, graduate student support, supplies, equipment, and other related costs.

The Division does not allow faculty to use recruitment or retention research support funds for their own summer compensation or for course buyouts.

In cases where research support funds are used to hire non‐resident graduate students, the Division will not provide any non‐resident tuition funding. That obligation belongs to the faculty member who is responsible for the student's employment.
